Minister defends plan to house up to 1,250 asylum seekers on ex-military base near Piddington

The Guardian reported comments from Immigration Minister Anna Turley defending plans for up to 1,250 asylum seekers at the former military site near Piddington. Turley said the site would be self-contained and argued that former military sites were more appropriate than hotels. She also said the Government would consider infrastructure and what communities could reasonably accommodate. For WPWS, this is particularly relevant because those are precisely the areas where the campaign is asking Government to publish the Site A evidence.

The campaign has reached a critical new stage.

Wrong Plan Wrong Site has officially launched a High Court legal challenge against the Government’s decision not to require a full Environmental Impact Assessment for the proposed development at MOD Bicester Site A.

We believe a development of this scale must be subject to proper environmental scrutiny, and we’re asking the High Court to examine whether the Government’s decision was lawful.
