Number of asylum seekers living in hotels across UK halves in a year

The Guardian reports that the number of asylum seekers housed in UK hotels fell from 32,041 in June 2025 to 16,021 in June 2026. Around 69,000 people nevertheless remain in temporary asylum accommodation. The Government is increasingly using private rented accommodation and other forms of accommodation as it works towards ending asylum hotel use. This provides useful context for the wider policy behind proposals such as MOD Bicester Site A.
