Concerns surrounding the Government’s proposal to accommodate up to 1,250 single adult male asylum seekers at MOD Bicester Site A have received further national attention, following a visit to Piddington by Reform UK Home Affairs spokesman Zia Yusuf.
Mr Yusuf visited the area on Saturday, 29 August, speaking with local residents before appearing on GB News to discuss the proposed use of the former military site.
Speaking from Piddington, he highlighted the scale of the proposal in relation to the small communities immediately surrounding Site A and the concern and uncertainty being felt by local people.
He also praised residents for the work they have been doing to bring attention to the plans, describing those he had spoken to as doing an “unbelievable and heroic job” to raise awareness.
A national audience for local concerns
The appearance brings further national attention to a proposal that could have a profound impact on Piddington, Arncott, Bicester and the wider surrounding area.
The Home Office has confirmed that MOD Bicester Site A is being considered as accommodation for up to 1,250 single adult male asylum seekers.
For the communities closest to the site, however, many important questions remain unanswered.
These include questions around the suitability and safety of the location, pressure on local infrastructure and services, transport, policing and security, community cohesion, the environmental impact and the process being used to determine whether the development should go ahead.

We welcome people from across the political spectrum raising legitimate questions about the suitability of MOD Bicester Site A, but our position does not depend on support for any particular political party.
Our campaign is focused on the proposal itself.
We believe the Government has not yet demonstrated that accommodating up to 1,250 people at this particular location would be safe, suitable, sustainable or good value for the taxpayer.
The growing national attention surrounding Site A is important because local people deserve to have their concerns heard.
Whatever someone’s wider views on immigration or asylum policy, a decision of this scale should be based on evidence, proper planning and a full understanding of its consequences for both those accommodated at the site and the communities around it.
