Conservative Bicester Town Councillor Sam Holland has publicly backed the Wrong Plan Wrong Site campaign and encouraged local residents to support efforts opposing the Government’s proposal for MOD Bicester Site A.
In a Facebook post, Cllr Holland said he was “standing firmly with local residents” against plans to accommodate around 1,250 single adult male asylum seekers at the site.
He also gave his support to the campaign’s legal challenge, writing:
“I fully support the community-led Wrong Plan Wrong Site campaign.”
Cllr Holland went on to praise the campaign for bringing local people together, saying the group was doing “an excellent job bringing residents together across party lines to stand up our area.”
He encouraged residents to visit the Wrong Plan Wrong Site website, share information about the proposal and explore the different ways they can take action.
His public support is another example of the growing concern locally about the scale, location and potential impact of the MOD Bicester proposal.
Wrong Plan Wrong Site is a community-led campaign bringing together residents from Bicester and the surrounding villages. We welcome support from elected representatives of all political backgrounds who are prepared to listen to local concerns and stand up for the communities they represent.
Cllr Holland’s comments are particularly welcome because they reinforce one of the campaign’s core principles: this is not about party politics.
It is about local people coming together to ask serious questions about whether MOD Bicester is the right location for a large-scale asylum accommodation centre and whether the potential impact on surrounding communities has been properly considered.
