A new community-led campaign has been launched in response to the Government’s proposal for a large asylum accommodation centre at MOD Bicester Site A.
Wrong Plan. Wrong Site. brings together residents and volunteers from Bicester and the surrounding villages who share concerns about the scale, location and planning process attached to the proposal.
The campaign is non-political and is focused on the plan itself—not on the individuals who may be accommodated at the site.
Volunteers have begun gathering evidence across several areas, including roads and pedestrian safety, utilities, healthcare, emergency services, environmental impact, land condition, public cost and the Urgent Crown Development process.
The work follows two public town-hall meetings, a meeting open to local councillors and further discussions involving volunteers and cross-party representatives.
In an update to residents, Calum Miller MP said he had submitted 39 Written Parliamentary Questions, raised the proposal directly with ministers and secured a joint meeting with the Minister for Border Security and Asylum and the Minister for Defence Readiness and Industry.
The campaign is also preparing for the possibility of a legal challenge. To do this effectively, it will need to establish a formal legal entity, obtain professional advice and raise substantial funds.
Residents are now being encouraged to write personally to Matthew Pennycook, the Minister for Housing and Planning, sign the petition, circulate the information leaflet and register for campaign updates.
The new website will provide a central source of information, evidence, news and practical actions.
The campaign’s message is simple: a decision of this scale must not be rushed. The Government must publish the evidence, listen to local communities and demonstrate that MOD Bicester Site A is genuinely safe, suitable and sustainable before proceeding.
