Wrong Plan. Wrong Site. is aware of continuing suggestions that the campaign is affiliated with the Liberal Democrats.
It is not.
In the urgency of the initial response to the Government’s proposal for MOD Bicester Site A, practical support was provided by people with experience, networks and resources within the local Liberal Democrats. We have never sought to hide that support, and we remain grateful to everyone who helped the community organise quickly.
But the campaign has developed significantly since those first days.
Today, Wrong Plan. Wrong Site. is a community-led, volunteer-run and politically independent campaign, operating through Bicester Countryside and Communities C.I.C.
People from across the political spectrum
Our Leadership Team includes people who have previously supported or voted for Reform, Labour, Conservative, Greens, Independents, and Liberal Democrat candidates, alongside people with no political affiliation at all.
Within Wrong Plan. Wrong Site., none of them represents a political party.
Our shared purpose is not party politics.
It is MOD Bicester Site A and the interests of the communities affected by the proposal.
Different groups have different roles
We also recognise the work being done by protest groups and other local organisations. They are helping to keep community concern visible, build awareness and ensure local voices are heard.
Wrong Plan. Wrong Site. has a different, but complementary, role.
Our focus is on building the legal, planning, evidence, community and financial capability required for the longer-term challenge ahead.
That includes gathering and testing evidence, seeking specialist planning and legal advice, engaging with residents and businesses, supporting work towards any appropriate formal legal challenge, and working collaboratively with parish councils, Bicester Town Council, Cherwell District Council, Piddington and other community organisations.
We are also building relationships with communities elsewhere in the UK affected by similar proposals, so that experience, evidence and lessons can be shared.
Working with elected representatives does not make us party political
Our Member of Parliament is an important stakeholder in the campaign.
Whatever anyone’s personal politics, the constituency MP is the democratically elected representative for the area and has access to Parliament, ministers and Government departments that can help ensure local concerns are heard.
Engaging with an MP, councillor or political representative does not make Wrong Plan. Wrong Site. Conservative, Labour, Liberal Democrat or Reform.
It means the campaign is using the appropriate democratic channels available to it.
We will engage constructively with any elected representative or organisation that can help advance the interests of the communities affected by Site A.
Independent, but willing to work together
We believe there is both room and a need for different groups to play different roles.
No single organisation needs to be everything to everyone.
Where objectives align, groups can work together, share information and support one another while retaining their own independence, structures and areas of expertise.
What matters is keeping the interests of local communities at the centre of that work.
